Leicestershire Sent Down After Pitch Fails To Deliver The Goods

Leicestershire Sent Down After Pitch Fails To Deliver The Goods

Leicestershire relegated. It wasn’t the batsmen. It was the grass.

The club’s appeal against a points deduction for breaching pitch regulations was rejected, cementing their demotion from Division One to Division Two.

Officials judged the home pitch to be ‘poor’, a breach of the competition’s playing‑surface standards, and the penalty remains in place.

With the deduction upheld, the points stay subtracted and the team will compete in Division Two next season.

Fans will now have to watch their side battle on a surface that, according to the board, was more of a liability than a launchpad.

The irony is hard to miss – the very ground that should host runs has now run the club out of the top tier, and a decent mower might have saved them, but the board preferred a points penalty.

if this one landed.
