Godzilla Minus Zero’s Hollywood Ovation Turns Tokyo Festival Into Monster‑Mania

At the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival, the sequel to Takashi Yamazaki’s Oscar‑winning “Godzilla Minus One” turned the venue into a monster‑infested fan fest.

Two sold‑out screenings of “Godzilla Minus Zero,” starring Kamiki Ryunosuke and Minami Hamabe, were met with a Hollywood‑style standing ovation that made the theater feel like a shrine to giant‑reptile nostalgia.

Costumed fans—some in full‑scale Godzilla suits—lined the aisles, clutching plastic monster figurines like prized trophies, turning the event into an impromptu toy‑store takeover.

The applause was so rapturous that director Takashi Yamazaki could have sworn he heard an actual Godzilla roar echoing from the rafters.

Despite the fan frenzy, the screenings remained strictly for the film, and the cast kept the excitement from spilling into the plot; the sequel is still slated to open in Japan on November 3.

The festival’s organizers, who had expected a quiet showcase of Japanese cinema, were instead treated to a roaring, applause‑filled spectacle that might have made Hollywood blush.

In the end, the crowd left with heads full of Godzilla dreams and hands full of plastic monster keepsakes, proving that even without a real lizard on the loose, a giant reptile can still bring people together.
