Royal Mail to Axe 2,500 Jobs, Leaves Postmen With More Time for Reading Mail

In a move that surprised no one who has watched the mailman’s slow crawl across the Square Mile, Royal Mail announced it will cut 2,500 jobs by the end of 2027.

The cuts will target head‑office and other non‑front‑line roles, sparing the sorting‑room heroes but leaving the office coffee machine as a prime candidate for redundancy.

If the postal service’s budget cuts are any indication, the next time you send a letter you might have to send it by carrier pigeon.

The decision comes after an organisational review that, according to insiders, has been longer than a post‑box‑filled day.

While the public will still receive their parcels, the company’s new slogan will likely be “Keeping the Post Alive, One Less Employee at a Time”.

Only the Post Office workers will know how many of those 2,500 will end up in the mail‑room break room or on the street.

if this one landed.
