Netflix Greenlights Bridgerton Prequel Focused on Young Lady Violet

Lady Violet is getting her own prequel. The ton is already polishing its dance cards.

Netflix has officially greenlit an untitled Bridgerton spinoff that will trace the early romance between a young Lady Violet and Viscount Edmund Bridgerton. Shonda Rhimes, the creator behind the flagship series, is attached as writer, making this the second expansion of the Shondaland‑produced period romance.

The series will explore Violet’s navigation of the Regency social ladder before she becomes the widowed matriarch we know from the main show. No cast has been announced yet, but the production team is already scouting actors who can master the art of flirtatious eye contact.

The project remains untitled, a nod to the difficulty of naming a story that’s still in its courtship phase. For now it’s simply referred to as the “Bridgerton prequel.”

The announcement follows the massive success of the original series, which turned the Regency era into a streaming sensation and proved there’s always room for another candlelit dinner.

Fans have long speculated about a Violet‑focused story, and the greenlight provides a clear direction for the franchise’s next chapter.
